Chilanga Town Council has adopted a total budget of K109,923,749 for the 2026 financial year during its 27th Ordinary Council Meeting held at the Council Chamber.
The adopted budget outlines the Council’s planned expenditure for the year and prioritises key sectors including Constituency Development at a cost of K40,032,550, public health and environmental protection at a cost of K5,995,711, housing and community amenities, district health services, transport services, resource mobilisation, and management and support services.
As part of the Council’s commitment to improving community services and local infrastructure, a total of K4,974,270 has been earmarked for capital projects under community services.
These include the completion of the Civic Centre Building at a cost of K2,000,000, as well as pothole patching on selected roads, installation of street name signage, maintenance of Twatasha and Sangalala markets, solar streetlights, construction of two 10,000-litre solar-powered water schemes, maintenance of hand pumps, servicing of water schemes, and a contribution towards the purchase of a fire engine.
These allocations are intended to support both ongoing and planned interventions aimed at enhancing service delivery, public safety, water access, and infrastructure development across all wards in Chilanga District.
Speaking during the meeting, Council Chairperson Mr. Champion Tembo urged Councillors and management to prioritise the implementation of government functions to ensure services reach the people of Chilanga in a timely and effective manner.
He further called on devolved government departments operating within the district to collaborate with the Council and actively participate in its programmes.
Mr. Tembo also took the opportunity to wish the staff of Chilanga Town Council and the people of Chilanga a prosperous 2026, emphasising the importance of love, unity, and collective responsibility in driving development within the district.
Meanwhile, Councillor Nicholas Katampi, Chairperson of the Finance, Valuation and Commercial Undertakings Committee and Chilongolo Ward Councillor, said the adoption of the budget provides a practical framework for the implementation of Council programmes and development projects.
“This budget provides a clear roadmap for delivering essential services and development projects to our communities while ensuring accountability in the use of public resources,” said Councillor Katampi.
The adopted budget will guide the implementation of Council programmes and projects for the 2026 financial year, providing a basis for coordinated development planning and improved service delivery across all wards in Chilanga District.
The 27th Ordinary Council Meeting was attended by Councillors, the Council Secretary, Mr. Francis Ndola, members of staff, and the Acting District Commissioner, Ms. Maureen Chilende, who joined deliberations on a range of governance, administrative, and development matters affecting the district.
