Chilanga Town Council has marked the New Year by providing food support to less privileged community members across all twelve (12) wards of Chilanga District through a district-wide distribution exercise.
Speaking during the outreach programme, the Council Chairperson, Mr. Champion Tembo, said he was pleased to share what was available during a period when many families were in need of food support.
He noted that the festive and New Year season should be a time of care and togetherness, particularly for the elderly and other less privileged members of society.
He added that the gesture was intended to bring relief to households and spread hope within the community.
The Council Chairperson further expressed gratitude to the various stakeholders and organisations within the district who contributed towards the exercise, stating that their support made the programme a success.
A total of 380 bags of mealie meal, valued at K76,000, were distributed across the district, together with some beef.
The donations reached beneficiaries in all wards, with the Council Chairperson engaging with Ward Councillors in their respective wards during the distribution process.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the support received, describing it as timely and helpful as families begin the New Year.
When flagging off the distribution exercise at the Chilanga Town Council Civic Centre, the Council Secretary Mr. Francis Ndola said the festive season is a time of giving and sharing.
He noted that through this initiative, the Council was giving back to the community and supporting residents during a period when many households required assistance.
The Council will continue working with community leaders and cooperating partners to support less privileged households and respond to the needs of residents as they arise.
