The department is responsible for the provision of community development services and social protection programmes. It’s also responsible for the management of Council properties and housing services, as well as management of bus stations and market facilities.

The department comprises of the following two sections and one unit, namely:

Social Services Section

• Provide community development services
• Coordinate and implement social protection programmes
• Manage cultural matters
• Manage sports and recreational activities
• Manage skills development programmes in order to promote the wellbeing of the community

Bus Stations, Markets and Housing Section

• Manage bus stations and markets
• Manage Council properties

Tourism Unit

• Promote Tourism Business Development and Investment
• Promote local Tourism in the district
• Implement tourism sector plans, programs and projects
